The Trembling of a Leaf; Little Stories of the South Sea Islands by W. Somerset Maugham

Posted at — Jan 20, 2019

Shrewd observations on human nature with a lot of fancy words, an array of slurs, and a bunch of suicides. Doesn’t say a lot about "native cultures", just focuses on the feelings and misgivings of the white man in a strange land. Realistic characters, subtle irony. Probably nice to read when you’re going to Samoa.

(read it for a book club)
